Semrush vs Moz

Semrush vs Moz: a broad marketing platform against a simpler SEO tool with seats and AI prompts in every plan. Where each is stronger, and what each costs an agency.

By Leon Missoul · Facts checked on 6 Oct 2026, from each vendor’s own pages

  • In Semrush vs Moz, Semrush is the broader platform: daily rank tracking, 28.8 billion keywords, 43 trillion backlinks, and toolkits for ads, local, social and traffic.
  • Moz Pro is the simpler, cheaper SEO tool: $99 to $299 a month with one to three users included, Domain Authority, and branded reports from the Medium plan.
  • On AI search they split the work differently: Moz checks 150 to 600 prompts a week, Semrush 50 to 200 a day from its Starter plan.
  • Both are research suites. The monthly work on each client site, and proof of what it earned, is the job Orbit takes on.

The short answer

Semrush covers more of marketing and refreshes more often; Moz covers core SEO and AI visibility for less, with seats included.

Pick Semrush if

  • You run several channels for clients. Ads, local, social, PR and market traffic are toolkits in the same account.
  • You want daily movement. Tracked keywords and AI prompts update every day.
  • Clients sell in many countries. 28.8 billion keywords across 142 country databases.

Pick Moz Pro if

  • You want seats without add-ons. Medium includes two users, Large three.
  • You track a lot of AI prompts. 150 to 600 a week on four AI engines, with sentiment and citations.
  • You send branded reports. Your logo on reports and templates from the $179 Medium plan.

The difference: a platform or a focused tool

Semrush has grown into a marketing platform. Search sits next to toolkits for ads, local, social, PR and market traffic, its trackers update every day, and since April 2026 it has been part of Adobe. Moz Pro stays with search and AI visibility. It includes users in its plans, created Domain Authority, and checks a larger set of AI prompts each week rather than a smaller set each day. For SEO alone, Moz costs less; for several channels in one login, Semrush covers more.

A team of three pays $459 a month for Semrush Pro+ ($299 plus two extra users at $80) and $299 for Moz Large, which includes all three users and 25 tracked sites. Add Semrush’s Advertising Toolkit for ad research and the gap grows by $99. Yearly billing takes up to 17% off Semrush and 20% off Moz.

Where Orbit fits

Semrush and Moz tell you how a site stands against the web. Agencies running client sites also need to act on it every month and show the client what changed. That is Orbit’s job, with either suite beside it for research.

Moz vs Semrush: how far each one reaches

Semrush sells search as one part of a larger platform. Next to its SEO plans sit toolkits for ads ($99 to $220 a month), market traffic ($289), local listings, social media and digital PR, all in one login.

Moz Pro stays with search and AI visibility: keyword research, rank tracking, site crawls, links, Domain Authority and AI prompts, in plans that include up to three users. If clients pay you for SEO alone, Moz covers it for less. If they pay you for paid, local and social too, Semrush keeps it in one place. Semrush alternatives and Moz alternatives rank the rest of the field.

Is Moz still reliable?

Moz has been in link research since Open Site Explorer in 2010, and its Link Explorer now counts 45.5 trillion links across a billion domains. Domain Authority, its best-known score, compares sites with each other and is not a Google ranking factor, as Moz itself says. Semrush’s index is of a similar size, 43 trillion backlinks, and it holds 28.8 billion keywords in 142 country databases.

Both describe the web at large. For your clients’ own sites, Search Console has the real searches and clicks, and Orbit’s Search keeps them past the 16 months Google holds.

Semrush vs Moz for AI visibility

They split the same job differently. Moz checks more prompts less often: 150 to 600 a week on GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, with sentiment and citation data. Semrush checks fewer more often: 50 to 200 prompts a day from Starter, and sells a separate AI Visibility Toolkit at $99 a month per domain.

Answers shift from one run to the next, so the line over weeks says more than any single day. Orbit checks 15 buyer questions a week for each client site on ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode, and puts the visitors and leads from AI next to them. The best AI visibility tools covers the dedicated trackers.

How we checked

Every fact about Semrush and Moz Pro comes from the vendor’s own website, read on 6 Oct 2026: its pricing page where it publishes one, otherwise its help pages and announcements. Each price links to the page it came from, in US dollars as the vendor states them.

Orbit is our own product, and the page says so wherever it appears. Its prices come from our pricing page. Prices change; if you spot one that has, tell us and we correct the page.

Questions about Semrush vs Moz

For a small team doing SEO only, Moz is often the better value: users are included, branded reports start on the $179 Medium plan, and 150 to 600 AI prompts come with every plan. Semrush is the better pick when you need daily rank tracking, more channels or the larger keyword database.

Yes, as a research tool. Moz has run link research since 2010, its Link Explorer counts 45.5 trillion links, and its Domain Authority is one of the best-known ways to compare sites. Like every suite, its numbers are estimates; a site’s own Search Console is the record of what really happened.

Yes. Moz Pro runs $99 to $299 a month, or $79 to $239 billed yearly, with one to three users, and a $49 plan covers a single site. Semrush runs $139.95 to $549 for one user, and each extra user costs $45 to $100 a month.

Yes. Every Moz Pro plan tracks AI prompts weekly on GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity: 150 on Standard, 300 on Medium and 600 on Large, with 100 more for $50. It also shows AI Overviews by keyword.
